ORTHOPEDIC SPECIALISTS & SPORTS MEDICINE (OSSM) ADDING TWO NEW SURGEONS IN SEPTEMBER
GRANVILLE, Ohio—Orthopedic Specialists & Sports Medicine (OSSM) is pleased to announce that two new physicians—Tung Van Dao, DPM, MS, and Eric Erb, MD—will join the growing practice in September and will treat patients at the OSSM office in Granville.
OSSM President Brad Bernacki, MD, said Drs. Dao and Erb will bring state-of-the-art training and expertise to the Central Ohio community.
“OSSM was attracted to both physicians based on their training and expertise, and we felt that they were both a great fit for the local community,” Dr. Bernacki said. “Podiatry and total joint replacement are much-needed sub-specialties at our practice.”
Dr. Tung Dao
Dr. Dao earned his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Kent State University, a Master of Science in medical physiology from Case Western Reserve University and his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine.
His training includes a Foot and Ankle Surgery residency at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, where he performed more than 1,800 procedures during his residency. He completed his fellowship training at the Silicon Valley Reconstructive Foot and Ankle Fellowship in Mountain View, California.
“I am thrilled to join OSSM because it’s an established, well-respected orthopedic group that aligns perfectly with my commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centered care,” Dr. Dao said. “OSSM has a reputation for clinical excellence, a collaborative culture, and a strong commitment to continuously improving patient outcomes. I am eager to contribute my foot and ankle surgeon expertise to this team-based healthcare delivery approach.”
Dr. Dao said that from an early age, he was drawn to the medical field because of his natural curiosity about the human body and a desire to help others improve their health and quality of life.
“I was particularly interested in the intricate workings of the foot and ankle and their important role in overall musculoskeletal function,” he said. “Pursuing foot and ankle surgery allows me to combine my passion for problem-solving, hands-on work, and making a meaningful difference in my patients’ lives.”
Dr. Dao said that as the population ages yet remains active later in life, he is seeing an increase in overuse injuries, degenerative joint conditions, and traumatic injuries to the lower extremities. He recommends people of all ages prioritize maintainingstrong, flexible feet and ankles through regular exercise, proper footwear, and prompt evaluation and treatment for pain or instability.
“By taking a preventive approach, individuals can stay active, mobile, and enjoy a higher quality of life as they age,” he said. “The most rewarding aspect of my work is being part of the positive transformation in my patients’ lives. When I see my patients regain their mobility, resume the activities they love, and walk without pain, it is incredibly gratifying.”
Dr. Eric Erb
Dr. Erb earned undergraduate degrees in chemistry, nutritional biochemistry, and metabolism from Case Western Reserve University and his medical degree from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. He trained as a resident in orthopedic surgery at Wright State with a fellowship at Mississippi Sports Medicine Orthopedic Center
Dr. Erb said joining OSSM will allow him to practice medicine in the way that he feels is the most beneficial to patients.
“OSSM and Granville seem like a very close-knit community where people respect each other and practice medicine the right way,” he said. “I look forward to participating in it and helping the practice grow.”
Like many orthopedic surgeons, Dr. Erb is a former athlete who was first attracted to orthopedics after being treated for injuries.
“Through my experiences as a patient in the sports medicine world, I found that I had an interest in human anatomy and enjoyed learning about the healing process,” he said. “I have also always found personal satisfaction in helping other people, and as I explored the idea of a medical career further, I found that I could marry my personal interests with my passion for providing services to people in need.”
Dr. Erb receives the most satisfaction from his work by dramatically affecting the quality of life of his patients.
“Hip and knee replacements have the unique ability to change a patient’s life almost overnight” he said. “Seeing patients rapidly return to a significantly better version of their life is something that I have always thoroughly enjoyed, and I hope to continue providing this service to as many people as possible.”
Most of his patients are dealing with arthritis, which is a degenerative disease of the joints.
“The best thing people can do for something like this is to take care of their bodies through diet and exercise,” Dr. Erb said. “However, in a lot of cases, arthritis can be a result of previous trauma, previous surgery, or a genetic predisposition to the disease. In these instances, there isn’t much the patient can do on their own to prevent disease progression, and the best thing for those patients to do is to see their orthopedic surgeon.”
OSSM is a partner practice of OrthoAlliance, an Ohio-based management services organization formed in partnership with leading Midwest physician practices, and Revelstoke Capital Partners, a Denver-based private equity firm. The company is building one of the country’s leading orthopedic management organizations, providing operations, marketing, and patient experience expertise and resources to partner practices at the forefront of life-changing advances in orthopedics and sports medicine.
“The local community was very attractive to both physicians,” Dr. Bernacki said. “There is a lot of growth potential on the horizon. Drs. Erb and Dao were attracted to OSSM by the support of OrthoAlliance and their ability to do most of their procedures at our locally owned surgery center for the best care of all our patients.”
Since 2019, OA has proliferated to 200+ physicians and more than 2,000 employees.
